Downtown Savannah Living

The city life has its obvious perks, exceptional dining, entertainment, and nightlife, to name a few. But other benefits of downtown living often are neglected, mostly because they counter the traditional thoughts of “city life”. City and suburban living are opposites, but here are three reasons why living in downtown Savannah is so much better than the suburbs.

What do you envision when you think of quaint suburban life? Pleasant neighborhood parks maybe? For some, parks contrast their visions of city life as living in a concrete jungle. But for Savannah, that thought couldn’t be further from the truth. For our locals reading, you already know downtown is known for its Parks. 22 to be exact! They provide locals and visitors with little reminders to stop and smell the roses, or in our case, the blooming azaleas. Each one carefully nestled into the Savannah landscape providing its own personality and story. If you have ever seen Forrest Gump, you might just recognize Chippewa Square, home to the famous bench where scenes from the classic movie were filmed.

Forsyth Park graces the center of the city. Sitting on about 30 acres, this historic location is cloaked in oak trees and azaleas. It also features a farmers market on the weekends, a fantastic breakfast cafe (Collins Quarter), and thousands of dogs!! It’s a park lover’s dream.

Something to think about when weighing your options for city living over suburbia is how enticing the downtown homes are for friends and family to visit. Rather than just finding time to come to see you, friends and family are going to want to come back again and again. You live where most vacation! And once they arrive, the entertainment is endless! From exploring River Street, locally owned businesses, all 22 of the parks, fabulous restaurants, and the best rooftop bars! Visiting a friend in the suburbs? No. Visiting a friend in the city? All day!

Let’s touch on those locally owned businesses for a moment though. Savannah was built on them, giving the city a nostalgic hometown feel. As a locally owned business ourselves, we love this aspect of the city. Down below you’ll find a list of some of our favorite businesses.
