There’s a new generation of young professionals in Savannah. Energetic, hungry and ready to take on the world, these young guns are aimed right at the top.
For decades, real estate agents have followed a tried-and-true marketing formula to sell homes — take photos, create a flier and write enticing copy — hoping the entire package would attract the right buyer. But it’s 2019 and in today’s competitive market and ever-changing digital landscape, those marketing methods seem almost as outdated as the yellow pages.
Standing out among other real estate agencies and a sea of homes for sale is a must, but how?
Just ask Ben Bluemle, broker/owner of Savannah’s Seaport Real Estate Group (seaportrealestategroup.com) whose creative video marketing techniques have made him a top producing Real Estate agent in the United States. He was even ranked as the #206 agent in the country by The Wall Street Journal.
“In my videos, if the house has a pool, I’m jumping into it,” he said. “If it has water access, I’m paddle boarding. One seller is a car dealer, so I’m driving up in the video in one of his most premier cars. These videos have allowed us to stand out against other real estate companies because we have pushed the limits to sell real estate differently — and in a more fun way — than it’s ever been done, especially in this market.”
Bluemle continues to tap into the video market with Port Talk, his monthly real estate show where he provides home buying and selling advice to viewers, profiles homes for sale and communities in the area, and talks about having a successful career in real estate.
When he was younger, Bluemle didn’t have aspirations of becoming a successful entrepreneur. His dreams lay on the gridiron as he dreamed of playing professional football. After playing in high school and at his alma mater, Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, he finally got a chance to try out for the pros.

Unfortunately, Bluemle didn’t make the cut and he had to reroute his career plans, which took him out of Pittsburgh and down south, to Atlanta, Georgia. He was staying with his cousins, who were in the real estate business, when one of them asked him a pivotal question, “Are you happy in Pittsburgh?” and offered him a real estate job.
“People don’t leave Pittsburgh, so I never thought in a million years I would, but there was something about the energy of Atlanta that I had never seen before,” said Bluemle, who went back to Pittsburgh to mull over the life-changing question. “Laying in bed that first night, I couldn’t sleep. Something was pushing me to do this.”
Or rather, someone. When he was a senior in college, Bluemle lost his 52-year-old mother Karen to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. “Losing mom changed my perspective on everything — on life, family and how short life can be. She always wanted more for us, so I felt that this was her saying get out of Pittsburgh and spread your wings,” he said. “So the next day, I packed up my car and left my dad, brother, sister, and everyone back home.”
For the next three years, Bluemle worked hard learning the Atlanta real estate business. “I loved it and I saw the passion and success that other people in the business had,” he said.
He finally decided it was time to go solo and opened his own company in Savannah. “Everyone thought I was crazy, but Savannah is a quaint southern town where there are a lot of generational families and everybody knows everybody,” he said. “I saw a lot of opportunity here. I was an intel major in college, so I’m very big on analytics, and I ran every potential real estate number — average age of real estate agent, average age of real estate brokers, median home values and projected growth, and I knew this was the market. I had to be willing to go all in.”
He went all in and, while the numbers seemed right, his timing was a bit off. It was 2010 when Bluemle opened the doors to Seaport Real Estate Group, just a few years after the real estate market crashed. “We had to become innovators in this space to succeed.”
Bluemle credits his success to timing, creativity and persistence. Since opening his doors in 2010, Seaport Real Estate Group has blazed a trail in the industry and grown to 24 agents that work in and around Savannah, including Ben’s wife, Megan Bluemle.
