    Featured

The State of Georgia Department of Natural Resources has announced an estimated effective date for the new Flood Maps for Coastal Georgia. For Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, and McIntosh counties, the maps are expected to be effective by 8/2/2018.

From the City of Savannah’s website:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Region IV office has prepared a coastal flood study to update Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for communities in coastal Chatham County and City of Savannah. The flood hazards shown on the FIRM are used to determine flood insurance rates and requirements and where floodplain development regulations apply. The updated maps will help communities plan for and reduce the risk from flooding in the future. Start taking steps now to keep your communities and families safe from flood risk by understand the risk of flooding in your area so that you know how future floods may affect you and if specific flood insurance and building requirements apply to your property (or will apply in the future apotekerendk.com.) To view click on: Preliminary FIRMs, open the “2016 Prelim” folder and select your specific panel to find out your flood risk. If you do not know your panel number, check with your insurance agent, visit SAGIS.org, or contact Tom McDonald at 912-651-6530. Additionally, visit FEMA’s website: www.southeastcoastalmaps.com or FEMA MSC and Georgia’s DNR site: www.georgiadfirm.com for information about the coastal updates along with fact-sheets and presentations.

As of October 2017, the projected date for FEMA to mail the LFD to the City of Savannah is February 2, 2018 with an effective FIRM date of August 2, 2018. Link for DNR’s Georgia Coastal Mapping Update notice click on ~ Date Table.

The Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and flood determinations will continue to use the current FIRM map panels as identified with Map Index Date July 7, 2014 until FEMA has provided an official Revalidation Letter stating the current Preliminary FIRMS (Dated May 23, 2016) are now the effective panels. Preliminary FIRM maps determinations and dates are subject to change.
